  1. Adaptive Ski & Sport Programs: What is adaptive skiing? Well in the simplest terms, it is to bypass your limitation and adapt your self, be it with training and or special equipment to go on and ski. There are many types of adaptive skiing, but with one thing in common, it's skiing! Programs can be found in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
  2. Casa Colina's Outdoor Adventures: A unique program to empower people with disabilities by creating opportunities for challenging and exciting experiences in the out-of-doors. Activities include ocean sailing, rock climbing, white-water rafting, snow skiing, horse-packing, water skiing, deep sea fishing, back packing, freshwater fishing, winter camping, dog sledding, sea kayaking, and family camping. This program is open to people of all abilities.
  3. GORP: A guide to outdoor recreation and travel opportunities for people with disabilities.
  4. NARHA: More than 600 therapeutic riding centers in North America are members of NARHA. When you choose a NARHA member center, you know the professionals working there have been educated to our standards and the instructors are certified. You also can be sure that the center is insured. NARHA also provides its members with continuing education opportunities in an effort to enhance services to individuals with disabilities.

Here you will learn about Lekotek's play centered programs and access a wealth of resources on opening up the world of play to children with special needs. So explore - and have fun!
  6. Therapy/Respite Camps for Kids: Information about summer camps that focus on therapy for kids with special needs and/or respite for the kids and their families. I have broken it into national categories and regional categories in the USA.
  7. Yoga for the Special Child: Yoga for the Special Child™ is a comprehensive program of techniques designed to enhance the natural development of children with special needs. Our style of yoga is gentle and therapeutic -- safe for babies and children with Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Microcephaly, Autism and other developmental disabilities. These methods also provide an effective treatment for children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder, ADHD and Learning Disabilities. Certified practitioners can be located in more than 30 states and several countries.

Sports

  1. American Amputee Soccer Association: Our Mission is to promote social interactivity, self-esteem and self-confidence among adult, and especially among new and youthful amputees, through recreational and competitive amputee soccer programs.
  2. The American Wheelchair Bowling: The American Wheelchair Bowling Association (AWBA) is a non-profit organization, composed of wheelchair bowlers, dedicated to encouraging, developing, and regulating wheelchair bowling and wheelchair bowling leagues.
  3. Disabled Sports USA: A national nonprofit, 501(c)(3), organization established in 1967 by disabled Vietnam veterans to serve the war injured. DS/USA now offers nationwide sports rehabilitation programs to anyone with a permanent physical disability. Activities include winter skiing, water sports, summer and winter competitions, fitness and special sports events. Participants include those with visual impairments, amputations, spinal cord injury, dwarfism, multiple sclerosis, head injury, cerebral palsy, and other neuromuscular and orthopedic conditions.
  4. The Far West Wheelchair Athletic Association: A wide variety of competitive sports is offered including track and field, pentathlon (2 track and 3 field events), swimming, archery, fencing, weight-lifting, air pistol and rifle marksmanship, table tennis, and slalom - an obstacle course of ramps, curbs, and gates designed to test the competitors agility, strength, and speed in a wheelchair. Any individual, junior or adult, with a severe permanent physical disability who is unable to take part in regular athletic competition, is eligible to participate.
  5. National Sports Center for the Disabled: This season is our 32nd year of offering outdoor recreation opportunities to individuals with disabilities. Join us and you ill discover there is "no mountain too high!" There are links to programs in various states.
  6. National Wheelchair Basketball: Tournaments, schedules, and scores from the NWBA.
  7. Paralyzed Veterans of America: Our Sports and Recreation Program is proud to promote a range of activities for our members and other people with disabilities, with special emphasis on activities that enhance lifetime health and fitness.
  8. Special Olympics: Special Olympics serves more than 1 million athletes around the world through six regions and more than 150 Programs.
  9. United States Association of Blind: In addition to providing world-class coaching and training, the USABA reaches into hundreds of communities across the United States, helping thousands of blind and disabled youth discover their own potential in school, sports, and the achievement of their own personal dreams. USABA trains 3,000 blind and visually impaired athletes in nine sports - alpine and nordic skiing, goalball, judo, powerlifting, swimming, tandem cycling, track and field and wrestling.
